Captains Day 1 - Oake Manor GC
The entry list grew to 16 and it looked like we'd at last have a viable day out. Unfortunately Simon Hancock cried off with a late back injury - didn't phone me like I asked, just sent a message with Marc Funnell who forgot to tell me until 8.45!
Another hiccough at the start was they served up Coffee & Bacon Butties
(not thought it was included) so we all thought they'd given us a welcome gift
- unfortunately we found out at lunch time the young girl had made a mistake,
so we all had to cough up £4 extra!
We had to draw a blind partner for Clive Perry for the morning 4 Balls but the
afternoon 3 Balls worked out well. Our two guests on the day (Andy Brock &
Mark Evans) seemed to fit in well and were quite keen. Everyone was pleased
with the course - it's very picturesque and the greens were quite good (but
their 3 wheeler, one seater buggies are crap!) with lots of water about – I
wonder why Tony Firth did not come this year.....??
Results:
Eric Phipps: Winners - Tim Wollaston & Marc Funnell (47 points) and third
time retainers!…is this a record? Runners up were: Dave Foot & Charlie Ross
(42 points)
Longest Drive was: Tim Wollaston and N/Pin was: Adam West
Winter Bowmaker: Winners - Marc Funnell, Jody Frayne & Adam West (how did
that team get picked?) (80??? points)
Longest Drive was: Adam West (a massive 300yds+ !!) and
N/Pin
was: Dave Foot.
There was also a special Capt's challenge of N/Pin in 2 on a tricky par 4 -
that went to Marc Funnell.
Anyway the weather was great - hot and sunny with none of the rain they
forecast the day before. We all had a great meal afterwards (Chefs Turkey &
Ham Pie) and Sweets from the trolley. I bought the wine for the table and then
the fun began. Paul Stevenson doing and admirable job as 'Fines Master' and
taking each of us for £2 with some very shrewd observations about our
misdemeanors - it got so they all wanted to pay another £1 to get mentioned
again!
We had a good laugh, a good day of golf (some of them anyway), a good drink and
a nice meal and I was very pleased to receive several emails on Monday saying
how well they had enjoyed themselves.
Already got 10 signed up for Day 2 so please keep 'em coming!
Regards, Tony
